Different techniques are available, based either on pressure, distension or Doppler waveforms. Techniques not only differ by the algorithm used to identify specific part of the pulse signal, but also in the preferred way to measure distance between sites. The merits of each technique are described, and a brief overlook of the marketed devices to measure pulse wave velocity is given. a 2008 Association for Research into Arterial Structure and Physiology. Background: Dementia is a common health problem in the elderly. Studies have shown that levels of pulse wave velocity (PWV) could predict cognitive impairment. The objective of this study was assessment of the relationship between arterial stiffness levels and cognitive status among the older people. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 60 individuals included 31 women and 29 men aged ≥ 60 ...
متن کاملPulse pressure and pulse wave velocity are related to cognitive decline in the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging.
Pulse pressure and pulse wave velocity, markers of arterial stiffness, have been associated with stroke, dementia, and lowered levels of cognitive function. Here we examine longitudinal relations of pulse pressure and pulse wave velocity to multiple domains of cognitive function among nondemented, stroke-free persons. Up to 1749 participants from the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging comple...
متن کاملReal time phase encoded MR for assessment of acute variability of central pulse wave velocity
Background The variability of pulse wave velocity (PWV) with changing arterial wall stress may reflect the degree of aortic stiffness independent of arterial pressure. We implemented a real-time MR flow technique so as to be able to assess acute changes in PWV due to affected arterial blood and/or intra thoracic pressure. The aim of this study was to assess the accuracy of rapid PWV assessment ...
متن کاملComparison of sequentially measured Aloka echo-tracking one-point pulse wave velocity with SphygmoCor carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity.
OBJECTIVES Recently, echo-tracking-derived measures of arterial stiffness have been introduced in clinical practice for the assessment of one-point pulse wave velocity. The purpose of this study was to find a relation between carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity and one-point carotid pulse wave velocity, and to find a value of one-point carotid pulse wave velocity that predicts carotid-femoral p...
